The 73rd CIRP General Assembly Concluded Successfully

The 73rd CIRP General Assembly was successfully held from August 18th to 24th, 2024, in the coastal city of Thessaloniki, Greece.

Founded in 1951, and headquartered in Paris, France, the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) is the most prestigious academic institution in the field of production engineering. Its members include over 600 leading scientists and industrial leaders from around the world.

During the six-day CIRP General Assembly, more than 600 fellows, members, and invited guests from various countries gathered to celebrate this significant event. The General Assembly officially opened with the Presidential Addresstitled "A New Era of Transformational Development in Manufacturing" by the CIRP President, Professor Fengzhou Fang from the University College Dublin, Ireland. In his address, which is regarded as one of the highlights of this annual manufacturing event, Professor Fang reflected on CIRP's history and legacy, reported on the organisation’s progress over the past year, and explored future trends and new paradigms in manufacturing advancement.

“After 4 decades in research and education, and having spent three of which in CIRP, working alongside and learning from you, my esteemed colleagues, I have come to the humbling realisation that I know nothing”, Professor Fang humbly stated. This warm and compelling address, along with Professor Fang's solid work over the past eight years at the UCD Centre of Micro/Nano Manufacturing Technology (MNMT-Dublin), has significantly boosted the international influence of University College Dublin in the global manufacturing field. The speech was widely quoted and praised by attendees

Established by Professor Fang at University College Dublin in 2016, MNMT-Dublin specialises in the design and manufacturing of medical devices, bio-implants, optical systems, as well as in high-precision manufacturing and metrology. As a leading research centre of its kind, MNMT-Dublin also conducts systematic studies on Atomic and Close-to-Atomic Scale Manufacturing (ACSM) and has made significant progress in the field, thus further enhancing University College Dublin's reputation in manufacturing technology.
